Travelin Around… Cupids Of The Caribbean At Couples, Jamaica’s SuperClubs Resort

“My parents took over the wedding plans and left me out, so we got married at Couples.” Our parents hated each other, so we got married at Couples.” We didn’t want the hassle of getting married at home so we all came to Couples for combined wedding, honeymoon and vacation.” These quotes came from three Delaware Valley couples we met at Couples, a SuperClubs Resort, located in St. Mary, Jamaica a short distance past Ocho Rios.

“When wedding plans get too intense at home, we take care of everything at Couples,” Joey Issa, General Manager, and resident Cupid at the resort said. “And there’s no extra charge for the documents, the wedding ceremony, the wedding cake, a reception, and photos. It’s all included in our regular rates at Couples, since the Resort is located in his parish. “I usually perform at least three weddings every day of the week,” Reverend McLean told me. “But last month I broke my own record and married six couples in one day.”

312But weddings are not the only ceremony the minister performs at Couples. Many couples come back to repeat their vows. “I get letters and postcards from many of the couples I’ve married,” Reverend McLean continued. “I’m a part of their lives forever and that’s meaningful to me. I also feel a responsibility to both my community and my country. SuperClubs is one of our country’s largest resorts and they are important to our local economy. There’s no other property in Jamaica that does more weddings that SuperClubs.”

Couples is on ten acres of ground facing the Caribbean Sea with eight hundred feet of white sandy beach; a private off-shore island with full facilities for nude sunbathing; a miniature Jamaican jungle complete with native plants, exotic birds, secluded hammocks for two, and a jacuzzi; and lush garden and lawn areas and pool deck with ocean views.

The resort has a marble lobby, luxury suites, 172 refurbished air conditioned rooms each with a private balcony, four private villas, a gymnasium, a pool bar, and three restaurants.

All meals are included, including your choice of evening dining at three different restaurants every night for dinner. A waterfront pasta restaurant under gazebos is casual and breezy serving a variety of fresh pastas, innovative sauces, and other Italian dishes from a daily changing menu. There’s a continental ocean view restaurant serving international dishes, and Le Gourmet, an elegant fine dining room offering gourmet French cuisine. There’s also terrace buffets, continental breakfast room service, open bar, wine served with lunch and dinner, airport transfers, and no tipping required or permitted.

Your stay at Couples includes use of all sports facilities, instructions and entertainment, swimming, windsurfing, scuba with resort certification, snorkelling, sailing, five tennis courts (three lighted), racquetball and squash courts, golf and greens fees, horseback riding, jacuzzi and sauna. Nightly entertainment includes dancing, beach parties, Karaoke and late night snacks.

Couples is a resort for couples only, whether you’re looking for a few days away or a few weeks vacation with your romantic partner – and Jamaica is a great place for a Honeymoon. 1. “Marriage: Love is the reason. Lifelong friendship is the gift. Kindness is the cause. Til’ death do us part is the length.”

  2. I don’t understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine’s Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.
    lol…..
anyways this is what I think but I really like the idea of Joey Issa that bride and the groom just pack their bags and come to Couples to get married….begin your new journey without stress …….

  3. This is fantastic planning of Joey Issa for the bride and the groom…..

Almost everything worthwhile carries with it some sort of risk, whether it’s starting a new business, whether it’s leaving home, whether it’s getting married, or whether it’s flying in space.

Who does not wish for a stress less life!! 🙂

  4. Weddings…….

I think a lot of people get so obsessed with the wedding and the expense of the wedding that they miss out on what the real purpose is. It’s not about a production number, it’s about a meaningful moment between two people that’s witnessed by people that they actually really know and care about.
Well done Joey Issa for arranging easier way for bride and groom. 🙂

  5. Planning for a wedding can be very stressful and so many things can go wrong but Joey takes all the worry out of it and makes the event a memorable one.

    • Any thing that can take the stress out of getting married is a plus for me. And Joey has the place that fits all types of engaged couples.

  6. Jamaica has established a long tradition of outstanding leadership in the private sector which continues to the present. The Gleaner commissioned pollster Bill Johnson to determine who are the current crop of leaders held most high in the public esteem. Businessman Richard Azan took the top slot, followed closely by Michael Lee Chin and Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart. Following are the poll results. Who are some of the business leaders in Jamaica who you admire most? Richard Azan 10%; Michael Lee Chin 9%; Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart 9%; Wayne Chen 6%; Lascelles Chin 5%; Matalons 3%; Douglas Orane 2%; John Issa 1%. The poll was conducted on March 4 and 5 across the country’s 14 parishes. The sample size was 1,008. Fifty two per cent of sample were males, 48 per cent females and 49 per cent were below the age of 35.

  7. “Thanks Joey Issa for Rocketman Wonder!”
    5 of 5 starsReviewed February 4, 2014
Last weekend I had the ultimate island experience at Bamboo Blu while I lounged under the blue open sky with a plate of delicious jerk chicken and a bottle of coconut water! Yes it was just as amazing as it sounds… and the cherry on top, I also had the opportunity to experience the Rocketman! I met the mastermind behind Rocketman, Joe Issa, and he was able to impart some helpful jet-packing wisdom onto this amateur. The Rocketman was an exhilarating experience, and Joseph was right, I did feel like a superhero. The Rocketman is definitely bucket list worthy and I guarantee you will have a blast!

  10. “My tummy thanks you Bamboo BluBlu!”
    5 of 5 starsReviewed 16 July 2014
I went to Bamboo Blu for a late lunch with a couple of friends. This time I had the Pork ribs, it was absolutely divine! I chose to have it with rice and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had included a side of tossed vegetables with my order. One of my friends had the Caribbean Blu burger and she could barely move move after she finished her meal. The other two are vegetarian so they opted for the pasta which they loved. We were so excited to eat that we kinda forgot to take pics of the food though *oops*
So, apart from the food we really enjoyed the scenery. We didn’t come to swim this time but that didn’t stop us from strolling on the beach and taking some random pics. We really had a blast and we’re already planning a full blown beach trip so that we can take advantage off the beautiful water and get some hands on experience on the Rocket Man ride.

  11. Forget Resorts: More Couples Going on Extreme Adventure Honeymoons

    Erin Duggan Kramer
    March 13, 2015

Somewhere in the Bay of Fundy, in heavy fog and rain, our electric horn went out. Our 40-foot sailboat had no radar, so my husband, Ben, and I were out on the open water, invisible to the large ships that could crush us in the seconds it would take for them to see us. The whales that we’d found majestic just days earlier were now perilous, as we could see just feet off our bow. As I scurried below to grab our air horns to signal our location to other boats, I thought, “This could be it. If we die out here today, at least it will be doing what we love, together.”

It’s that time of year again when the winter blues start to kick in and people begin to daydream of a tropical holiday vacation. Many of us push aside the idea of a Caribbean getaway because we feel that it’s either too expensive or not a place for folks who are single. Well, if you think the Caribbean is for couples only or people with money, it’s time to think again.

Following are some undiscovered destinations where singles and groups of friends can take a walk on the wild side full of rum, salsa, reggae and the real Pirates of the Caribbean. The best news is that these locations are all a fraction of the price.
